Akwa Ibom PDP hit by another round of defection, Esit Eket PDP founding leaders Joins APC- THEKILLERPUNCH
The exodus from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Esit Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, its former stronghold, continued on Tuesday with the defection of hundreds of its members in four wards, making it a total of eight wards in the area that have so far fallen to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Two weeks ago, there was a massive defection in four other wards in the LGA which has 10 wards.
The PDP in Esit Eket in recent times has lost several members including a former Senator, Senator Etang Umoyo, two former Members of the House of Representatives, Barr. Bassey Dan-Abia (Jnr) and Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, a former Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Engr. Imaobong Inyang and a retired Permanent Secretary, Barr. Mike Eyo.
Those who defected on Tuesday from Wards 10, 7, 8 and 2 included the pioneer Deputy Chapter Chairman of PDP in Esit Eket, Emem Edoho, a former leader of the Esit Eket Legislative Council, Theophilus Umoyo, and three other PDP founding leaders, Uwem Edukere, Pastor Joe Edukere and Chief Effiong Udoisang with thousands of their supporters.
Receiving them, the APC Political leader of Esit Eket and former House of Representatives member for Eket Federal Constituency, Barr. Bassey Dan-Abia Jnr said all was not well with the PDP family and commended the defectors for deciding to shun opposition politics to the Federal Government.
“Former Governor Godswill Akpabio once said that Akwa Ibom State cannot afford to play opposition in national politics, so must it be in 2019 in the State”, Dan-Abia said.
