AKWA IBOM SPEAKER CALLS FOR THE EMULATION OF LATE MONARCH , AKWA EDIDEM UKPA - THE KILLERPUNCH NEWS
Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke has extolled the roles which the late Akwa Edidem Akpabio Udo Ukpa played in maintaining peace, justice, and harmony in Akwa Ibom state and in the Niger Delta region during the monarch’s lifetime.
The Speaker said the late paramount ruler was instrumental to the tranquillity which Akwa Ibom state enjoyed amidst political instability and hostilities in other states of the country.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the family of the late Akwa Edidem who doubled as the paramount ruler of ONNA local government area and Oku Ibom Ibibio III. He described the rite of passage for the late Akwa Edidem as a celebration of a life well lived.
He said: “This is a celebration of life because the things he needed to have achieved within his lifetime, he achieved them. He spoke honestly about political issues which bordered on the socio-political stability of the state at a time that this was most paramount. He was a respected voice; this is why he commanded the respect of stakeholders across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He was a pathfinder who showed leadership to ensure peace, justice and tranquillity. He protected the interests of the Ibibios and across the state and spoke boldly on the need for political leaders in the state to do be fair and just. For instance, I recall his staunch insistence for the balance of power across the state in 2007. For equity sake, our late father was at the forefront of the agitation for governorship to go to Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district in 2007.

Surprise, excitement, and expectation reigned over the Akpan Andem Market in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday as Governor Udom Emmanuel paid an unscheduled visit to the market. A governor or even ranking state official hardly visits any market in the state except during political campaigns. Mr. Emmanuel’s visit was in the afternoon, at the peak of activities in the market. He was accompanied by security officials and some aides, including his Special Assistant on Youth Matters, Aniefiok Iwadudofia.
